A friend of mine, who’s going through something difficult, asked me the other day why it was happening to her. “Why is God doing this?” she said.
It’s a two-part answer. First, we can’t say which things in life are literally caused by God. We live in a fallen world, populated by people with free will. Some things just happen, though we can be sure God will turn all things for good in the lives of those who are His.
Other things, though, are His works. In which case it’s fair to ask why. So here are some possible answers…
that you would know that He is the Lord
Exodus 7:17
~
that you would know the certainty
of those things in which you were instructed
Luke 1:4
~
that you might know that the Lord Himself is God;
there is no other besides Him
Deuteronomy 4:35
~
that you might know the righteousness of the Lord
Micah 6:5
~
that you might know the way by which you must go
Joshua 3:4
~
that you would know that He, the Lord,
is your Savior and your Redeemer
Isaiah 60:16
~
that you would know that the battle is the Lord’s
1 Samuel 17:47
