“a land of drought”
Jeremiah 2:6
~
Well, it finally happened. We got a notice from the water department, and starting in July, we will be penalized if we don’t stay within our “personal budget”. I guess they’ve figured out what we need, based on what we’ve used in the past, and now we have to stick to that.
I’m not too worried, really. We know there’s a drought in Southern California, and that there has been for years. So we are sensible about watering our lawn, and making sure we only run the dishwasher and the washing machine when they are full. And we’ve even added things like not just letting the water run down the drain while we’re waiting for it to get hot.
We’re more conscious, more thoughtful, and yes ~ more appreciative. We know there are people in the world who don’t have clean water at all, or only with a great deal of effort.
But you know what occurs to me? That under this new threat of penalty, we’re not doing anything different. We were already taking steps to conserve. We were already being wise about our water.
The time will always come, when you will be forced to do what you should have been doing all along. Why not do it now?
